Exhibitions and Audiences: Seminar thoughts

Not contextualising fashion by putting it on a wall, which is what an exhibition should do.

Best example of a fashion exhibition is probably the versace exhibition.

Jacques Derrida:
Deconstruction - attempted to create a philosophy based on structure of philosophy. Quite hard to read.

Paregon:
Suggests frame which exists outside the object. Protects the work also, possibly from culture and society. The frame is inbetween space telling us where work begins and ends. Curation is about containing objects.

Derrida suggests that it is not the object that is beautiful but the representation of the object itself.
We can remain indifferent to an object but the representation of it may be beautiful
e.g the colour chart exhibition.
The exhibition was beautifully curated however i was indifferent to the objects themselves.

Can and should fashion be framed?
How should it be displayed?
Is fashion a socially driven discipline rather than a culturally or aesthetically driven discipline - is it useful to curate and display fashion atall?
